What is United Donations?

United Donations is a non-profit agency that promotes local projects. We help non-profits gather sustainable interest and support for their projects in 3 ways:
- Storymaking with a one-pager to share data, updates and stories
- Connecting non-profits, donors and corporate partners
- Collecting donations

What is the mission of United Donations?

Our mission is to make development projects meaningful for everyone. We believe that sustainable support of local projects begins with a clear understanding of how they function over time and how donations can make a difference. We offer tools to share the progress of projects and get passionate about their impact on communities.

What are United Donations’ commitments?

We commit to:
- Have our accounts certified each year by a Chartered Accountant
- Not send paper documents to the community of donors
- Only send our newsletters and alerts when project leaders publish Storymakers for projects you have subscribed

About the projects

What types of projects are accepted on the platform?

United Donations accepts all projects conducted by non-profits and NGOs that have a positive social or environmental impact on the communities they serve.

Can I just use the Storymaker without launching a crowdfunding campaign?

Yes, you can use the Storymaker to promote your project without collecting donations with United Donations. We do not have any restrictions for projects that only use our Storymaker.

How does United Donations select projects for crowdfunding?

To be eligible for a crowdfunding campaign on United Donations, organisations must:
- Offer identical services for all individuals, regardless of their origin or religion
- Be entitled to receive funds from a French bank.

United Donations selects effective, well-managed local organisations that have a meaningful impact on the communities they serve. Organisations must have a proven track record of achieving results and working effectively, and commit to provide feedback about the use of funds to their donors via the Storymaker or other communication channels.

Organisations are requested to accept our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy when submitting a project.

Making donations

How can I make a donation to a project?

You can make one-time or monthly recurring donations to support the work of project leaders. Monthly recurring donations can be made by bank card (CB, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, e-Carte Bleue and Visa Electron) or direct debit (for donors in EU countries). You may make one-time donations by wire transfer or cheque (provided it is issued by a French bank).

For one-time donations please contact us with the name of the project you wish to support and we will process this for you.

Can I know how my donation is used?

On each project page you will find the specific actions and costs your donations will help cover. Project leaders will then give you news of how your donations are making a difference via our one-pager, the Storymaker, or other communication means. Although we select projects with care, United Donations is not responsible for the way the donations are spent by project leaders.

Can I make a donation without selecting a specific project?

If you do not wish to support a project in particular, you can make a contribution to The Donation Fund. Contributions to this fund are allocated to projects via matching grants campaigns. You can know all about these on the Donation Fund project page and Storymakers.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

The minimum donation is 6.60 euros. All donations online must be a multiple of 6.60.

Can I cancel a recurring donation subscription when I like?

Donors are free to cancel a recurring donation subscription at any time. No need to give prior notice, we cancel subscriptions immediately.

Does United Donations charge a fee?

From January 1st, 2015, there will be no commission on donations. We will just charge a fixed 0.40 euro fee to cover transaction costs.

How are funds transferred to the projects?

United Donations wires funds raised each month to project leaders on the 5th of the next month.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

All non-profits and NGOs on United Donations are not entitled to emit a tax receipt for your donations. You will find the indication “emitting a tax receipt” on the project pages of those which are authorised to do so.

For individuals making donations in France, you are entitled to a tax deduction against income tax, amounting to 66% of the amount donated, within a limit of 20% of your net taxable income. A tax receipt will be sent to you between January and April.

For companies making donations in France, all your payments under the sponsorship allow you to benefit from a tax credit on corporate income of 60% of the amount of payments, to a maximum of 5 per thousand of your net turnover. Beyond 5 per thousand or in the event of financial year loss, the balance may be carried forward to the following 4 years within a limit of 5 per thousand. A tax receipt will be sent to you between January and April.

Security and privacy

What is our policy in terms of privacy and intellectual property rights?

When publishing content, including photos and videos, you grant United Donations and the corporate partners that support your project via United Donations a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use any content that you post on our website or Storymaker.
